JUST A BLUR

JUST A BLUR

Along an Interstate

ubiquitous fast food outlet

someone sits crouched

gutter seating

reading a book

warm February air

they drift into deserts

often from a colder east

cars stream by missing

nobody in particular

a curiosity still

an afternoon

some shade

one journeys

into another day

beneath this Palo Verde

just a blur

a camera unsure

just what to focus on

molecules forgetting

classmates evaporated

family tired and trying

not to think clearly

one of us alone again

amidst crowded words

free as the setting sun

imagination loosening

strangers eyes angled

dreams lingering

settling

dust

fog

forgetting

blurred
