I check up on my tags to find out what others think. If you write a blog and do not check out your compatriots, what kind of community are you not interested in? I know blogging is all about what I think, feel, and otherwise experience of interest, but WordPress makes it so easy to understand more of your own thing, by checking in on others lives and interest in common. Thanks WordPress and tags.

So I come across this post, seemingly well written, about the importance of the first amendment, and how the Founders could not have imagined cable news, the Internet etc. True so far.

Next thing, after some honorable Thomas Jefferson quotes, we shift into polling in the MSM (main steam media, not sulfur compound) and how that is a creature of the Liberal Media. Non sequitur!

I did not know polls favor liberals intrinsically, unless people are ashamed in public of their conservative tendencies. This puffed out in garb presenter is a minister of some kind. When I hit on “home”, suddenly REPUBLICAN something or other site shows up. This minister happens to be Black. I suspect Black in that manner that at the Republican Convention, one usually sees many women, some Blacks and Latinos, (by being presenters up front,) hinting this is the party for them. Oh Boy! Cause in panning out to the audience, one mostly sees white guys. So someone knows whose interest are really represented but skews perception to entice a more broad appeal. I’m just guessing.

The minister went on to demonstrate, in ad hominem form, how Barrack Obama was undermined in the last minute by the liberal medias opinion that favored Hillary Clinton somehow. No direct connection why this would be so.

First let me state my view that the media was intended to be liberal=varied, independent, unafraid of government due to constitutional safeguard, and so wide open to any interest or viewpoint–liberal. Liberal means conservatives get their say as well! It has come to be not that way, mostly because big money keeps consolidating this public domain into the hands of just a few. Strangely(?), well known conservatives are often lobbying for their ability to control wider fields of the media market. One can only wonder how free that press will be when one guys viewpoint can monopolize currently 39 % of the market? A change from 35 percent during Republican control of all branches, since Rupert Murdock wanted his just achieved 39%, I believe the story goes.  It is beneficial in democracy apparently, to have friends in high places.  More like a monarchy.

Some of these allegedly liberal news outlets had to provide from 2 to 3 more conservative viewpoints to a liberal one during the Iraq War lead up. One estimate had it that the “talking heads” that act as media experts on the news shows were conservative 3 or 4 to one. There is an entire conservative media conveyor belt created to load oligarchical messages into the public domain, (allegedly to counter the liberal media bias) leaving the unknowing viewer in the dark as to the set up going on right before their eyes and ears.

“The Nation” magazine has an add out, that it is the only place you can get that famous liberal media bias found nowhere else. Good point. How much of that liberal MSM were not cheerleaders for the invasion of Iraq? Somewhere there needs to be a reality check on both the myth, and the need of the media itself to be liberal, in that sense of beholding to nothing but the truth (including obviously at times descent; left, right or middle), the facts, and their opinions of that. That is not a fault! Like the inherent liberalism of the US Constitution as a form of government; money, power, control, monomaniacal egos, these as always are the natural opponents of free thought. They seek to preserve both status and permanence over any form of mass independence in regard to the individual. It is the opportunist way.

Sure some opportunist are liberals in a manner of speaking, in that liberalism leaves a niche for them. That is unfortunately; until humankind is entirely in honest communication and has the ability to understand one another with mutual respect; a price for freedom. Some corporations benefit from the corporate restructuring of society, while they benefit even more from the permissiveness endemic to freedom. These companies can benefit from each side of the fence while claiming to be one, the other or neither.

Conservatism these days seems to be against our freedoms unless they profit from them. I am hearing more and more that we are a Christian nation, so much for freedom of religion. We would not be in Iraq if it did not have intrinsic wealth to maneuver to corporations. We would not have had months if not years of misinformation to steer the individuals survival instincts to fear, then plant that on any target one wishes, be they Muslim, or liberal, or you.

Fear is the penultimate diverter of attention. The conservative mantra for so long has been unending fear rants against moral degradation and taxes. Here we covet potential new converts to the big tent. The freedom of liberties of America become portrayed as liberalism’s poisonous claim to fame. Week character building is alleged to be the result of the welfare-socialist state sponsored by you guessed it–liberals, and not compassion and caring even if results are not perfect. How astonishingly callus to think we should not pool some of our resources to help those in need! Now this help to those falling behind their American dream is called the “Nanny State.” Nice and diverting of your real interest and attention.

Your local tax dollars can go straight to corporations pockets for the thanks of them building their big box in your town. The trade off can be your streets and parks go down the drain, all thanks to highly paid lobbyist changing laws to the side of the corporate welfare (Nanny stockholders?) state. What are you left with; yes cheaper goods probably from China, a sense of your community running down, calls for more tax cuts, which may well appeal to you since you do need more money for any number of necessities or dreams.

Socialism for the rich marches on while the public shoots itself in the foot over wedge issue fears tricking them to hand the life saving rope to the guys with the noose around their necks side. Reality is turned on its head. Proof? How is profit not seen as a tax by the individual on you (dollars that can go hide offshore or into whatever self serving thing one wishes.), while government allegedly acting for the common good, which includes you, is damned as steeling from your pocket?

It continues to astound me how so many priest, preachers and minsters have been hijacked to points of views of others that are so anti-Christ teachings. “Wedge issues” are meant to divide the population into self identified pieces, opposite the nature of reality which integrates all things. The conservative is then lost in an ideological frontier, grabbing on to any institution or symbolic stand in that says we will protect you, serve you and share your interest. Deal done.

Once bonded (as in my own experience to church), becoming free from false behavior, or in the face of straight forward contradiction; these are denied and turned from as if it would indicate your own betrayal of the truth (or God or Country). Abstractions can be mean taskmasters who disconnect critical thinking; your ability to liberally challenge assumption and even fact without a terror threat; emotional or physical.

No wonder that the wedge is presented as somehow in the interest of good, God and or nation. One tends not to just turn against ones own cosmology (what seems held as sacred truth), instead, cognitive dissonance like compartmentalization’s help to keep one from facing ones own internal states of contradiction. Now, when you see these contradictions seemingly out there in others, you may wish to have at them!

As a liberal American, I apologize to blame American liberals first conservatives, for their pain in seeing diversity and lifestyles not of their liking. I am sorry that the nation created to offer these very freedoms refuge, is not of their liking. Saudi Arabia is more like their liking. I am afraid, however, that if you attempt to destroy this America or turn it into your own theocratic market state, citizens, as well as the nature of Life Itself, will be your constant bane.

Here is the official link for those coming to find about about 2010+ shows

(more photos at bottom)

This is a departure from my usual post. No, really.

During the gem show (this year starting early Feb.) hotel rooms can more than double in price. Tents, huge tents appear around the interstate, and here and there throughout Tucson. Different associations put on different shows. There can be bead shows, fossil, African crafts, and all manner of mixes of these, plus jewelry, meteorites, and on and on.

One of my favorite once was where they now call the “Rio Nuevo” site. Tents were out under trees and on the dirt. It felt like you were far away in Morocco, for the gem and mineral shows bring in all kinds of foreigners. That show was moved years ago to a gravel parking lot at Tucson Electric Park, no where near as much fun walking over gravel, but still great prices on a good variety of items. Tucson is considered the show where the world establishes some of the going prices on these things.

Shows in hotels can have hundreds of rooms, each with someone from somewhere with their rare goods, and at times, fascinating looks and voices of the presenters. Usually one can walk around and not be interfered with. You might be considering buying something that caught your eye and hear that; “I could get you twenty cases of those by tomorrow. Also you might encounter people with walky-talkies comparing prices across shows or informing someone on what they just found. At the tribal tent areas you might encounter very rare gems called hippies or what are the modern day versions who seem like some earth oriented new age world travellers. Nice food tents are here and there.

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Showcase(?) Is a big final show at the Tucson Convention Center. It is at the near end of the other shows. You might see exhibitors who you have seen days before somewhere else.

This year will have the extra thrill of interstate work possibly creating all kinds of zig-zag driving around downtown. There is a free bus service during events that runs every 15 min. or so. So one can park and go that way.

Some years I miss the show, or it seems like the same old thing, but actually something new shows up almost every year. Then next year its price may double, then astoundingly triple the next, just when you regret not getting it when you first wondered what that curious stone was.

I am mostly going for all the exotic crafts this year. If you think of Christmas or unique gifts, you often cannot beat the price for someones work of art.

Before the public gem shows even open, private ones occur. I believe once the military had sold off 40 million worth of laser crystals at these private events. Since hotel prices are already rising, these events are probably already going on.

It can be fun just to walk around and look, but be careful at that, for suddenly you might get dizzy at beauty and exotic curiosity overload. Then you need a break, maybe to next year. Then you wake up Sunday, the weather is better, and like a magnet you are drawn back. In fact I picked up neat hematite magnets last year that I had never seen before in that shape. I am hoping that person will have their variety show there this year to get a few more of those. They form strong magnetic circles, and could be used around the wrist as an exercise aid. Weird enough right?
