“Dateline” has a tornado special on now called “The Year of the Tornado”. On it you will see some of the effects tornadoes have on communities. One person who was planning on leaving their town for the big city (Denver) decided to stay put, because they discovered what wonderful people actually lived around them.
This is how we are folks. We might be disgusted with one another’s politics, or church. We might think everyone is really just in it for themselves, until our worlds are turned inside out. Then we come out. Then we come to know who was really living all around us all the time. The modern world is more of a distraction than we ever realize.
I am a EF5 tornado survivor. I can verify the sense of finding a missing community that can occur from devastating circumstances. 41 years later, it still is part of why I never gave up on society, myself or our abilities to solve problems together.

It might also be the “Year of the Comet” or Volcanoes or…but it already is “The Year of the Tornado” for now. Hopefully the future will not be more fertile for them. There are tornadoes on the ground as I type. Oh, and a major hurricane out at sea. Bermuda may be in the way of this one. With luck it will weaken and move east of there.
