FROM THE NATIONS EDGE

Eleven degrees above freezing Fahrenheit at 11am.

The new cat (7months old small Persian) is home for second day and acclimating to the four other cats and dog.

Mesquite trees are losing their leaves this winter. Not much rain since the 3 inches in the first part of December, which still has a spot of a pond where the turtles are out during months, weeks, or sometimes only a day or two during the monsoon season. Our remaining cottonwoods seem safe for another year.

Groundwater pumping has eliminated some of the nations largest stands of cottonwoods in this area. Ours in the front yard “wash” were allegedly planted, and I believe greatly benefited from when the area still allowed septic tanks and leach fields a decade or so ago. There is a continuous small spring a block or so away, they are retreating back that direction by dying off. I am planting more drought tollerant trees that have deeper root systems.

Another one of our fantastic days here at 4000 feet. Probably mid sixties at least in afternoon after nights frost.

I uploaded about one hundred photos, mostly of this immediate area, a few friends and relatives to a Snapfish photo sight. I’m going through over a thousand and a half to put up some. My overall difficultly has been all the going back through the large file to pick out the twelve they let you send, then going through the whole process again after the time it takes to upload those. The small images on this laptop makes it kinda difficult to be sure of the actual quality of that picture. Dominant are the fantastic sunsets of monsoon season or whenever clouds are up at sunset.

An easy Sunday of the nations front line, or bottom line, being the line is about 4000 feet away, there are no houses or roads to speak of in-between, just “badlands”.

Have a fine Sunday for me

Benafia
